A couple of weeks ago, we, as a company, received some pretty exciting news. Inc. Magazine announced their list of Best Workplaces for 2020 and Text In Church made the list! As Inc. describes, “the list is the result of a wide-ranging and comprehensive measurement of private American companies that have created exceptional workplaces through vibrant cultures, deep employee engagement, and stellar benefits.”
(here’s the team, celebrating “together”)
Being recognized in this way means a great deal to us. Internally, we’ve always known that Text In Church is a special place to work. From the level of excellence we work to achieve in everything we do, to the amount of laughing that takes place when we go out to lunch, working in this environment is unmatched.
The Text In Church team is made up of people from a variety of professional backgrounds. Yet, we have all found our “home” at this company that embraces who we are while equipping us to be the very best we can be.
Especially in the last few months, it has not been lost on us the value of a strong culture. Text In Church has not only responded in generosity to our members, with loads of new, free resources, free text messages for members, and 60 days free to any church who wants to use the platform, but the company has also been a safety net for its employees.
With added flexibility to our schedules, grocery stipends to help cover lost income, and a full work from home ability, Text In Church has once again shown that caring for its employees is its top priority.
We are so excited to share this news with you and celebrate how far our company has come! You can find an excerpt from the formal press release below…
Kansas City, MO (May 6, 2020) – Text In Church has been named to Inc. magazine’s annual list of the Best Workplaces for 2020. Hitting newsstands May 12 in the May/June 2020 issue, and as part of a prominent Inc.com feature, the list is the result of a wide-ranging and comprehensive measurement of private American companies that have created exceptional workplaces through vibrant cultures, deep employee engagement, and stellar benefits.
Collecting data from more than 3,000 submissions, Inc. singled out 395 finalists for this year’s list. Each nominated company took part in an employee survey, conducted by Quantum Workplace, on topics including trust, management effectiveness, perks, and confidence in the future. Inc. gathered, analyzed, and audited the data. Then we ranked all the employers using a composite score of survey results. This year, 73.5 percent of surveyed employees were engaged by their work.
The strongest engagement scores came from companies that prioritize the most human elements of work. These companies are leading the way in employee recognition, performance management, and diversity. It is a different playbook from a decade ago, when too many firms used the same template: free food, open work environments, and artifacts of “fun”.
According to CEO and Co-Founder Tyler Smith, “From day one Text In Church has been committed to building both a successful business and an incredible culture that attracts top talent. In order to fulfill our purpose of helping church leaders leverage technology to build relationships and connect with their communities, we must develop a team of highly committed and talented individuals. I believe firmly that with the right people on our team we’ll build the communication tools needed to help connect communities.”
To this end, you’ll find Text In Church employees enjoying a top-notch workspace at the brand new We Work building in Kansas City where cold brew and vanilla lattes flow freely each morning. Keeping in line with its core value to prioritize people, the team enjoys the flexibility to work from home 3 days each week. The Text In Church team breaks bread together every Tuesday & Thursday enjoying lunch at local BBQ and burger joints.
Text In Church employees also enjoy a creative benefits package with much more than just generous profit sharing, 401k, and healthcare. Employees also receive a monthly stipend towards their fitness. And, since employees work from home three days per week they receive a monthly stipend toward a home cleaning service. Employees are encouraged (even compensated) to volunteer with a non-profit of their choice. That’s right, Text In Church actually pays the team to volunteer.
Text In Church hires great people who are committed to growing throughout the year. Employees are always completing online training courses, reading books, attending conferences, and sneaking away for staff retreats. Each year in January you’ll find the team laughing, learning and growing at their annual retreat.
“Building a great corporate culture comes only from strong leadership,” says Inc. magazine editor-in-chief Scott Omelianuk. “The companies on Inc.’s Best Workplaces list are setting an example that the whole country can learn from, especially now, when company culture is more important to the workforce than ever.”
While researching the finalists, Inc. and Quantum saw distinct themes:
– 100 percent provide health insurance.
– 50 percent allow employees to bring pets to work.
– 62 percent take employees to offsite retreats to relax and recharge.
– 20 percent offer paid sabbaticals to reward length of service.
